2026 - NEWSLETTERS
ALAN PRICE
I am sad to report that Alan Price has died (aged 79). He was a renowned wildlife
and nature photographer living in Criccieth and winner of numerous National
and International Awards, including a First Place in an International Garden
Photographer of the Year.
He was a very enthusiastic lecturer at local clubs and also ran practical demonstrations.
He was very generous with his time and would help
anyone who asked. He was a great exponent for the idea that you don’t need
lots of expensive kit to take great photos. He will be sorely missed.

WELSH SALON 2026 - ADVANCE INFORMATION
Last year 98 photographers from 27 clubs entered 760 images! 390 Images from 88 Photographers received Acceptances! While delighted with these results, WPF resources were stretched to the very limit. This necessitated a strict review if we were to be able continue in 2026. Accordingly we have streamlined and simplified the Salon while retaining and expanding the number of Sections. We regret that this year again our resources are fully stretched to the extent that we are unable to handle public participation during the selection, neither are we able to extend entry invitations beyond the WPF Membership. The sheer weight of materials in the form of boxes, prints and frames has been an ongoing concern. This year, in line with many other Salons, we will dispense with the frames themselves.

So - many congratulations to the Mold club.

The NWPA Print Battle 2026
Hi Everyone and I hope that you are surviving the 'Monsoon Season'.
I write to invite your club to take part in this year's NWPA Print Battle which is taking place
on Saturday 11th April at the Craig y Don Community Centre, Queens Road, Llandudno.
To make your journey up to Llandudno worthwhile, this is planned to be a full day event with
clubs exhibiting their members' work for us to enjoy, possibly a 'Bring & Buy Sale' where you can
purchase or sell all your goodies, an interesting talk by our visiting judge and of course the Print Battle
competition itself!.
To whet your appetite, here are the provisional timings:
9.00 am - the hall opens for setting up a mini exhibition of clubs prints etc and the acceptance of each
club’s print entry.
9.30 am - The NWPA President officially opens the event, and attendees will then have the opportunity
to socialise, look at the prints on show and possibly the photographic Bring and Buy sale will be taking
place.
10.30 am - Exhibition is pulled down and there is a refreshment break.
11.15am Talk by our Judge, Steve Proctor MPAGB, BPE5*, PPSA, A.APS, UKICPG-3 who is travelling
down from Clitheroe.
12.45pm - 1.45pm Lunch break
1.45pm to 4.30pm Judging of the NWPA Print Battle.
5pm - the competition is over and we have to be out of the hall
The format of the Print Battle is the usual one:
To enter your club needs just 8 prints with at least 3 colour prints, at least 3 monochrome prints
and with no more than 2 nature prints.
The prints must not have been entered into any previous NWPA Battle or as a PDI in the NWPA PDI
Challenge.
To encourage our smaller clubs to take part there is no restriction on the number of prints per
entrant – however we would hope that if possible, more members are used …..and if a club with a
limited number of entrants comes first or second – they will not be invited to represent the NWPA at the
PAGB Print Championships as many more prints are required and from a greater number of authors.
Those clubs who are taking part will be sent out an individual entry form/score sheet which
will need to be completed and returned to myself and Phil by the 28th March
On the competition day, the prints will be handed in by the clubs before 9.30am in numbered
order with the reference letter/number on the back top right hand corner.
So what do I want from you now seeing as though the competition is not taking place until
April?
Well I need to know as soon as possible (after you have discussed things at your club) - which
NWPA clubs are taking part and which are definitely not!
This information is important as we need to know which clubs are taking part to be able to design the
score sheet
Once advised of a club’s decision to take part or definitely not taking part - that decision will
be final!
So what do you have to do now??
Firstly, just let me know that you are taking part before the 14th March.
clubsec@rhylphotosoc.co.uk
Start sorting out your entry.
Those clubs that are taking part will be sent an individual entry form, fill it in with the titles
and authors - keep a copy and email the completed sheets to myself and Phil by the
28th March phils.dpi@gmail.com
So over to you! Any problems – please email me John Smith Print Battle Organiser
