A Festival of Inspirational Images

On Sunday, 19th February, 2023, the North Wales Photographic Association (NWPA) hosted a presentation of inspirational images in Llandudno for the benefit of its members.

Organised by Christine Langford the event included showing the PAGB’s 5th “Masters of Print” exhibition which consisted of the 60 selected prints from the 2021 entries.

The quality of each of the image was superb and left little doubt that a good picture should be printed – it’s the ultimate way to display photography.

Thanks to Tony Davies for liaising with Rod Wheelans and transporting the prints to the venue.
(The Masters of Print (6) Exhibition was launched in Birmingham this month and will then tour the country at various other venues. Details can be found in PAGB’s e-news magazine.)

The main event, though, was the showing of the award-winning images from the Welsh International Salon of Photography (2022). These were shown as projected images and included digital versions of print entries. Linda Bell, our President, introduced Peter Young, LRPS, CPAGB, AFIAP, APAGB, Chairman of the Salon, who gave us an informative and entertaining commentary throughout the presentation.

Peter is a member and a representative of the Welsh Photographic Federation (WPF) which is responsible for the running of the Salon. He travelled up to North Wales especially for the occasion with the blessing of the WPF who are keen to include us in their activities.

Sadly, Peter will be standing down in his role as Chairman of the Salon and desperately hopes someone will pick up the baton and that the Salon will continue to be as popular in the future as it is now.
(Incidentally, we should point out that Peter Young, besides his work for his club and federation is also the Treasurer for the PAGB.)

Andy Polakowski gave a vote of thanks and the final act was the calling of the raffle. The day was well attended by those who took advantage of this free event and is hopefully an indicator the there is revival after lockdown.

THE CRISIS HAS BEEN AVERTED !
Before last year’s Annual General Meeting our Secretary, Terry Mills, had announced that he would be retiring at the AGM 2023.
Enough notice, one would have thought, to find someone else to fill this important role.
After all, our Federation would not be able to function without a Secretary. No Federation = no inter-club competitions,
no exhibition, no access to PAGB events e.g. Awards for Photographic Merit, FIAP, etc. or to judges and lecturers.
After a period of silence round the table, we contemplated asking to join the Lancashire & Cheshire Photographic Union.
Eventually, our Vice-President, Jason Wharam, agreed to take this on.
Thank you Jason - you saved the day!
Later in the afternoon, Charles Meadows was approached to be our Vice-President and accepted. Thank you, Charles.
So our new list of Officers, as voted in at the AGM, is as follows:
Past President: Ian O’Neill
President: Linda Bell
Vice President: Charles Meadows
Secretary: Jason Wharam
Treasurer: Iona O’Neill

THANK YOU, TERRY
At the conclusion of the AGM Terry was thanked by all the attendees for his years of dedicated service as our Federation Secretary.

JUDGES & PRESENTERS
For all sorts of reasons, the numbers of judges and presenters our clubs can call on have reduced. We only have 16 judges now on our list and some of them travel huge distances to attend the clubs across the whole of North Wales.
It is time for some new blood.
So, if you would like to show your work or would like to become a judge, please contact Jason Wharam (wharamj@gmail.com)
or talk to your own club delegate.
Once we have some numbers, some training sessions can be arranged and then, hopefully, we could get some new judges.

PAGB AWARDS FOR PHOTOGRAPHIC MERIT
At the recent adjudication in Nottingham three North Wales members gained distinctions:
Pauline Jones (Rhyl) BPAGB, Kay Newman (Deeside) CPAGB
Pauline Potter (Deeside) CPAGB
Congratulations to all three

The Beaumaris & Menai Bridge club recently hosted the 6-way Battle between Caernarfon, Conwy, Dwyfor, Beaumaris & Dyffryn Ogwen This was judged by Chris Kay and won by Caernarfon.
The evening was attended by an audience of over 50 and thanks go to the Beaumaris club for organising this event.

The Photography Show will be held at the NEC, Birmingham
16-19 March 2024
