AWPF
Awpf - What is it?
The Welsh Photographic Federation (WPF) is an affiliation of over 50 camera clubs in South Wales, ie the area of Wales
not covered by the NWPA.
Their Distinction Award is known as the Associateship of the Welsh Photographic Federation and is held for life, a holder being entitled to insert the letters AWPF after their name. The distinction is awarded annually and is open to al lphotographers throughout the world.
Submissions are assessed once a year, typically in November, by 5 assessors selected from the WPF/PAGB list of judges or persons of equivalent standing. Applicants may attend if they wish.
Each application will be assessed as a complete Print Panel /or Digital Sequence and not as individual pieces of work, usually with a single theme of the author's choosing, and should consist of the following: a set of 12 monochrome prints or digital images OR a set of 12 colour prints or digital images OR a mixture of 12 monochrome and colour prints or digital images - it cannot contain a combination of prints and digital images, it's either one or the other.
The standard required is summarised thus: “A very high standard of imaging that would be appropriate for National and International levels, demonstrating an understanding of what constitutes good photography, including camera technique, composition and design, presentation and finish and an empathy with the subject matter.”
Cost for non-WPF members (ie, us) is a one-off £50 (2018), no annual subscription is required. Only 20 assessments are carried out each year so early application is advised.
Further details are to be found on the WPF website.
