It is sad to report that Brian Cook died on the 27th July. Brian & Elizabeth were members of Conwy Camera Club from 1999 Until they moved to Cumbria in 2017. Brian served tirelessly as NWPA Treasurer for 8 years from 2006 – 2013. An obituary can be found on Conwy’s website https://conwycameraclub.com/brian-cook/
Brian Cook I was extremely grateful to him and will always remember both Brian and Liz with affection. Shortly after giving up as treasurer, they sold up and moved away. Terry Mills, CPAGB, AWPF, Hon NWPA. |

SUCCESS AT UPPThe UPP is the United Postal Portfolios consisting of “Circles” which is a number of people (usually about 12) in any or more than one Group submitting images as Prints or PDIs, which other Members of the Group comment or even vote on for best pictures in that group each month. There are, I believe, just over 30 Circles of various types (mono, colour prints, small, medium size or A4 prints, even one for Darkroom Prints, Infrared and now PDIs sent by email). It's an excellent scheme to join as it enables you to get to see the work, at all levels, of photographers from all over the country, comment on and read other people’s opinion of the images and get comments on your work as well as encouragement, help and ideas of how to improve your photography. Certificates are awarded for the best images which also give members something to aim for. Once a year there is a convention/AGM weekend where members can actually meet each other and I have been privileged to be asked as a Speaker to attend quite a few of these “weekend events”. A major feature is an exhibition of the Circle Members’ work and shows the winning pictures from each Group. I was impressed and really enjoyed seeing these images and was pleased to see Christine Langford had won a “Circle Certificate” for a beautiful print of Reeds by the water. But even more pleased when the result of the “Members vote” was announced. Christine had won this award by gaining the most Votes from the Members who attended the convention. I have always rated these awards which are chosen by a lot of Photographers to be the most difficult to gain and most enjoyable to win. Instead of being given an award, for example by three exhibition judges or one individual judge Christine’s image had received more votes than of the other many images in the exhibition. Congratulations Christine for this “well deserved achievement”. Margaret Salisbury Reed Bed - Christine Langford For more information on thisorganisation go to: www.uppofgb.com |
I my capacity as the Global Photographic Union UK Representative and Governing Board member, I was pleased to present GPU awards to Sharon Prenton Jones and Andy Polakowski. Sharon received a GPU Gold Medal for her image Gypsy Maiden in the 158th Edinburgh International Exhibition of Photography 2022. Andy has achieved VIP 2 status with the Global Photographic Union. V.I.P stands for very important photo. To reach VIP 2 Andy had to have 10 different photos that had been awarded a gold medal in international exhibitions. Tony Davies |
